Can You Still Make Money Blogging in 2019?

Can you still make money blogging in 2019? The answer to that question is yes but there are a couple of huge hurdles bloggers are facing right now on the Internet.

My name is Joe Dorish and I have been blogging on the Internet since 2006. In my best month as a blogger on the Internet I made over $14,000. I'm not making anywhere close to that kind of money these days and I'll explain why that is true here.

So if you are thinking of becoming a blogger, or you are already one, what I have to say here should help to influence how you blog and try to monetize your blogging efforts.

Can You Still Make Money Blogging in 2019?

In the old days of blogging you would just create a website and publish great content and put ads around that content. As people found your content they would view it and you would get paid for the views and clicks you generated.

In theory, that same concept exists today but with two huge changes outlined below.

1. The majority of Internet users use some type of Ad-Blocker

Today, some 50% of Internet users view content while using some type of ad-blocking software. So close to over half the people who view the content you have created will not see the ads you have on your site. That is really bad news if you are trying to monetize your site.

If visitors are not viewing the ads on your site you cannot make money from those ads. Basically you are blogging for free for over half the people who will visit your site. For bloggers this is really bad news and will really impact your ability to make money blogging.

2. Mobile use  

The second factor impacting your ability to make money from blogging is the surge in mobile Internet use. It is far harder to make money from people visiting your site using mobile than it is for people using desktops, laptops and tablets. 

As more and more visitors view your content using mobile devices rather than desktops, laptops and tablets, the amount of money you can make from those visitors declines. This could change in the future if anyone ever really figures out how to monetize mobile views with great success but for now the use of mobile devices is having a very negative effect on bloggers.

Can you still make money from blogging in 2019? Again, the answer is yes but it's much harder these days than it was 10 years because of the surges in both the use of ad-blocking software and the use of mobile devices to use the Internet.

The key to making money from blogging is still to get large numbers of people viewing your content but in today's world it's tough to be a blogger when up to 70% or more of your visitors are either using ad-blocking software or viewing your content from a mobile device.

Sorry if that's not what you want to hear as a blogger or potential blogger in 2019 but that's the way it is today.
